Various experts will talk on the zarzuela, the iconic Spanish lyric-dramatic genre that boasts spoken and sung scenes. The songs, that are danced to, incorporate operatic and popular songs. One can’t presume to know Spanish culture without at least a basic knowledge of the zarzuela.
The two-day seminar, “Jornadas de Zarzuela, Encuentros en los Espacios Singulares”, will be conducted by prestigious authorities on the subject, with focus on the zarzuela’s singular settings, lost theatres, music halls in palaces and private residences. A debate also forms part of the agenda.
There will be proposals for the regeneration of Spain’s lyric-dramatic musical.
