The Feria de San Isidro, organized in honor of the city’s Patron Saint, St. Isidore or “Isidro” the Farmer, is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, May 10th and end on Friday, June 2nd.  It will include 21 corridas de toros, 3 novilladas, and 2 festejos de rejones, or bullfighting from horseback, popular among bullfight and equestrian fans. And almost all of the top bullfighters and toros from the leading brave bull breeding ranches in Spain will be performing and filling the arena with spectators every day.

There will be bullfighting on horseback sure to delight equestrian fans

For the truly avid fans who hold abonos (a season ticket for all the corridas of the Fair) and go every day, Monday is a day of rest to be able to deal with more mundane obligations, hence no corridas are scheduled for May 13, 20 and 27 and June 3.

Plaza de Toros de la Puerta de Alcala, better known known as Plaza de Toros de Madrid, in 1866. Since 1856 the Corrida de Beneficencia, a.k.a. Corrida Extraordinaria de la Beneficencia de Madrid, is celebrated annually as a fundraising event whose total take went to the old Hospital General. The Beneficencia remains a charitable corrida, now celebrated at Las Ventas.

Also scheduled and not included in the abono is the corrida de Beneficencia on Sunday, June 9th, with bulls from Garcigrande for Morante de la Puebla, Frenchman Sebastián Castella and the young and very promising Fernando Adrián. The Corrida In Memoriam will be held on Sunday, June 16. On this occasion it will pay special tribute to an outstanding Madrid-born bullfighter Antonio Chenel “Antoñete”, who passed away on October 22, 2011. Matadors José Mari Manzanares, Alejandro Talavante and Paco Ureña will perform that day with bulls from the Jandilla ranch. And finally mention should be made of the Corrida de la Cultura, the traditional Corrida de la Prensa, and a special corrida to honor the National Police Force, on the bicentennial of its founding.
