Dr. Hans Kluge, World Health Organization regional director for Europe, is all praises for Spain’s handling of the COVID vaccination during his meeting with Spain’s Minister of Health Carolina Darias on 8 November. With 90% of the target population (over 12 years of age) already fully vaccinated, Spain has made quite a record. And yet, Kruger notes that the country isn’t sleeping on its laurels. Instead, "Spain, despite having a very high level of vaccination, continues to put pressure on the virus and does not give up despite the [admirable] figures" it has achieved.
Spain is staying on the fast track toward fully inoculating 70% of its population. In the "old" days of the pre-Delta variant, this meant herd immunity. But now experts think herd immunity will be raised to over 80% and doom-mongers are saying herd immunity is a pipe dream. Spain is wary of setting a date for achieving the new herd immunity. But there's no stopping the country from making that "pipe dream" come true And not in the distant future!
