Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez is set to go it alone if the European Union won't act as a united entity and recognize Palestine as an independent and soveriegn state. For Sánchez, a Palestine state is about the only guarantee for sustainable peace not only between biblical antagonists Israel and Palestine but in the region as well. Sánchez's stand quickly earned him Israel's ire, bringing Spain and Israel's diplomatic relations to the brink of collapse.

How Acting President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, is invested President and Prime Minister despite the fact that his "progressive" party, PSOE, came out second to the conservative Popular Party in the general elecrtions. Sánchez was invested on the promise of a government that will give Spain a full four-year term of "stability, coexistence and progress."

Uncertainty assails Spain these days. It is possible that a new parliamentary election will be held before the year is out because of the deadlock in investing the President of the Government. I asked a dozen young Spaniards in Puerta del Sol about it and ALL of them said there's going to be an election indeed. Surprisingly, most of them also think it's a good thing.
