Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez is set to go it alone if the European Union won't act as a united entity and recognize Palestine as an independent and soveriegn state. For Sánchez, a Palestine state is about the only guarantee for sustainable peace not only between biblical antagonists Israel and Palestine but in the region as well. Sánchez's stand quickly earned him Israel's ire, bringing Spain and Israel's diplomatic relations to the brink of collapse.

The war against Ukraine has been accompanied by a sharp rise in inflation which is leading to significant increases in interest rates. We have also observed in recent weeks a rapid fall in share prices on financial markets and a spectacular loss of value on cryptocurrencies. This could trigger a new financial crisis. But faced with bleak economic outlook, we should avoid false solutions. We must keep trade open, as trade barriers would only worsen affordability and have an asymmetrical impact on the poor. We should help stimulate local production. . ."
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez: The Agreement in Brussels of the Coronavirus Recovery Plan marks “one of the most brilliant pages ever written in EU history.” It is “a historic agreement for the economic recovery of our country [i.e., Spain], not only in offering a response to the COVID-19 crisis, but also to the transformations needed.” The Agreement is 95% satisfactory for Spain and 100% for the whole of the EU.
