EC statement: "We the Leaders of the G7 condemn the massive Iranian attack against Israel, using drones and missiles, in the strongest terms. We express our solidarity and support to the people of Israel and reaffirm our unshakable commitment towards its security. Iran's actions risk provoking an uncontrollable regional escalation. This must be avoided. We will continue to work to stabilize the situation." Spain is following with "great concern" post-attack developments.

At the G7 summit, the US President has made his support of Ukraine manifest; confirmed the US will begin training Ukraine pilots on the F-16 jets which could prove a major factor in gaining air supremacy over Russia; has pledged a further $375 million dollars in military aid. He has called on Putin to stop the conflict which has cost some 200,000 casualties on the Russian side alone.

The war against Ukraine has been accompanied by a sharp rise in inflation which is leading to significant increases in interest rates. We have also observed in recent weeks a rapid fall in share prices on financial markets and a spectacular loss of value on cryptocurrencies. This could trigger a new financial crisis. But faced with bleak economic outlook, we should avoid false solutions. We must keep trade open, as trade barriers would only worsen affordability and have an asymmetrical impact on the poor. In Brazil it almost seems that forests are being cleared for ranching and other purposes. Forests are a pain in the neck to people who see nothing but profit and progress. But forests fill a basic need for human life: O2. We breathe because of the oxygen produced by trees and plant life and especially the rainforests of the world. Bolsonaro may just have to deal with the world on the issue of the wildfires in the Amazon.
