The 15th of August is a public holiday in Spain, being the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The Constitution says there is no State religion but the Spanish nation is founded on Catholicism. No Constituion could shake that off so easily.
It may lack sparkle but the Doce de Octubre marks the game-changing moment in the history of the world, no less!
In 1492 the Sephardic Jews were expelled from Spain for allegedly subverting the Catholic faith. To right this “great historical error” Spain plans to grant instant citizenship to Sephardic descendants.
