“‘Make America Great Again’ or MAGA is Trump’s campaign theme
which has found favor with US conservatives.”

Last week former US President Donald Trump won 51 percent of the votes in the freezing cold Iowa caucuses. That compared to the second runner-up Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and the third runner-up Nikki Haley, former US Ambassador, and South Carolina Governor. Vivek Ramaswamy, a businessman, came in 4th and suspended his campaign for President after the votes were tallied. He then gave his endorsement to Trump for President in November of 2024.

The Iowa caucuses were held in the middle of an arctic blast, with sub-zero temperatures impeding voters from participating. But Iowans are used to winter snow and cold, and hardy Republicans turned out for the vote in spite of the inclement weather.

Trump was overwhelmingly favored (82%) by voters looking for a candidate who would “fight for people like me”, with 64% favoring the candidate who would focus on the crisis of immigration.

The caucus rules are not like a traditional election; rather, they require that participants gather at the same time across the state and join in forum-like meetings before casting their ballots.

Next week, New Hampshire will hold its caucuses, with Trump, DeSantis, and Haley on the ballot.

Trump must also contend with his legal challenges. He denies all wrongdoing in the criminal cases against him although his ability to campaign will be complicated by his court proceedings.

The US Supreme Court will hear arguments concerning his very eligibility for candidacy under the 14th Amendment to the Constitution in February.

“Make America Great Again” or MAGA is Trump’s campaign theme which has found favor with US conservatives.
