THE PATRON SAINT OF MADRID, ST. ISIDORE THE LABORER
Isidore, the farm laborer, also known as SAN ISIDRO LABRADOR, is known for his piety toward the less
fortunate, poverty stricken and animals. The Spanish word LABRADOR signifies worker
of the land. His full name was Isidro de Merlo y Quintana.
CERVERCERÍA CRUZ IN THE RASTRO

Metro Line 5: La Latina ( 10 minutes from Callao or Grand Via )
For lovers of Shellfish, this La Latina neighborhood institution and bar, is one of the best venues in
which to do a Tapa´s Crawl. The Rastro Flea Market, rocks and this bar is located
right in the center of all the action. The must haves here are:
The Razor Clams (Grilled Navajas), Clams on the Half Shell, a wide variety of Jumbo Prawns and Fried
Calamari. Wines by the glass are decently priced and good bar quality. They are not “Vega
Sicilia”, however, they pair well with the large array of Tapas. Prices are fair and just.

MERCADO SAN MIGUEL
This is not a restaurant per se, however, it is an epicurean market, with uncountable kiosks and
stalls which serve a vast selection of tapas, with a fusion of the traditional and the vanguard.

A BOCADILLO DE CALAMARES ON PLAZA MAYOR
Locals in the Capital enjoy dropping by for a Calamari “Hero”, a huge Spanish Bread, filled with freshly
fried Calamari, for a mere 4 Euros, plus a beer or glass of ice cold Sherry Fino.
Where? The fifty year old CERVECERÍA PLAZA MAYOR 2.

Located very close to the Royal Palace, serves traditional Oxtail, Cazone Adobado, a marinated Tope
Shark with a dip of home made Garlicy Mayonnaise, called Alioli. Another specialty at
Taberna de Ramales, is Huevos Rotos (broken eggs) which are sunnyside
up eggs served with Iberian Ham and potatoes.

family style traditional meals including Oxtail.

One of the most historic restaurants in Madrid, where one sits amongst thousands of black and
white photographs of all well knowns who had dined there, including former King
