During the Dark Ages in Western Europe, the Arabs and the Moslems were at the peak of their bright civilization. The cities of Baghdad, Damascus, Cairo, in the eastern Arab world, and the Arab cities of Seville, Cordoba, and Granada in Spain were great centers of culture and civilization. During the last fifty years of modern history, every fifteen years of Arab life is roughly equivalent, in terms of progress, to one century of Western development, thanks to the reverse process of Western civilization’s contributions to the Arabs of Today. Who is the patron saint of Madrid, its true “first lady”? The conciliatory madrileños will tell you that it is obvious: all the three famous Virgins. that is, the Virgins of Almudena, La Paloma and Atocha. But there are more. Madrid has never suffred from lack of Virgins!

The Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act was passed in the Senate and the House of Representatives by a unanimous vote and thus could be enacted into law even if President Trump vetoes it. (He signed it.) Good to know that, although far away, the cry for freedom and democracy can still be heard and addressed in some way.
