ACM President’s Breakfast: Paolo Morgado, President of Capgemini
Esade Madrid Business School
Calle Inurria Mateo, 25-27
9:00h

Paolo Morgado, CEO of Capgemini Spain, speaks on “Strategic Planning: Myth or Reality in Turbulent Times”

Given the turmoil of the socioeconomic and political context and the frenetic pace at which business sectors are being transformed, it is clear that the traditional linear model of strategic planning followed by execution has ceased to be valid for companies.

The slowdown in China and other emerging economies, the plummeting price of oil, the digital transformation, the imminent incorporation of generation Z into the workforce, the impact of the terrorist threat on the economy, the uncertainty of European politics, the instability of the financial system, rising corruption, and the expiry of business governance models… Thanks to all these factors, the present context is so uncertain, tumultuous and fast-paced that a strategic decision cannot survive for very long. Plans have become so ephemeral that they have ceased to be useful.

At this friendly discussion session, Paulo Morgado will share the keys to adapting a company’s model of strategy and execution to today’s reality. The session will focus on the new roles and qualities that upper management should possess, cultural change, the adaptation of governance structures, and the value of intuition in decision-making.

Success in life or in any type of business comes down to designing a well-defined strategy and then putting it into practice.  A blog strategy is no different.

One of the advantages today in designing a blog is that the internet does not require that you are a big company or have deep pockets.  However, it does require understanding your target market, knowing how to locate them and designing content that speaks to them.  Once you have your blog published, it is important to know how to spread your message and measure its success with statistics.

The discussion will concentrate on a real case study, “Oh My Fiesta!” and will reveal the secrets behind its success.

Authentic Happiness
March’s Read:  Authentic Happiness by Martin Seligman (You don’t have to have finished the book to join us!)
Available on Amazon.uk (in paperback) and Amazon.uk (for Kindles)

We are limiting our group to 10-12 so our discussions can be more intimate, and “meaningful.”  As always we encourage your comments and suggestions.

Over a decade ago author Martin Seligman charted a new approach to living with “flexible optimism”. Now, in his most stimulating and persuasive book to date, the bestselling author of Learned Optimism introduces the revolutionary, scientifically based idea of “Positive Psychology”. Positive Psychology focuses on strengths rather than weaknesses, asserting that happiness is not the result of good genes or luck.

Seligman teaches readers that happiness can be cultivated by identifying and using many of the strengths and traits that they already possess, including kindness, originality, humour, optimism and generosity. By frequently calling on their “signature strengths” in all crucial realms of life, readers will not only develop natural buffers against misfortune and the experience of negative emotion, they will move their lives up to a new, more positive plane.

Seligman describes 24 ubiquitous strengths and virtues, with each person owning at least five of these “signature strengths” which he or she can identify and develop to their maximum potential. Incorporating these strengths into crucial realms of life moves living up to a new, positive plane.

Authentic Happiness provides a variety of tests and unique assessment tools to enable readers to discover and deploy those strengths at work, in love and in raising children. The life-changing lesson of this book is that, by accessing the very best in ourselves, we can improve the world around us and achieve new and lasting levels of authentic contentment and joy. “At last, psychology gets serious about glee, fun and happiness. Martin Seligman has given us a gift – a practical map for the perennial quest for a flourishing life.” —Daniel Goleman, author of Emotional Intelligence

“An amazing book! Absolutely full of practical wisdom and its authentic sources. What depth and width of understanding! Seligman affirms our power of choice with a perspective on old and new psychology I found compelling and fascinating. This book will help restore the Character Ethic.” —Stephen R. Covey, author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
